Preparing for your Glamour Photography & Boudoir Photography Session:
1. Moisturize Skin
Make sure that you’re using a good body lotion and facial moisturizer everyday the week leading up to your session. We want to make sure your skin is positively glowing and not dry and dull. It’s a good idea to use an exfoliator to help with removing dead skin cells. A word of caution though: Make sure that your skin is comfortable with the facial moisturizer that you’re using to avoid breakouts. We use Too Faced’s “Tinted Beauty Balm” ($34)
2. Moisturize Lips
Unfortunately, we don’t fix chapped lips in post-production. To make sure your lips are perfectly kissable and pouty, use a lip exfoliator to smooth out the skin on your lips and moisturize often with a good lip balm. We use VS Pro’s “Smooth FX Lip Scrub and Balm” ($16) during your glamour photography session. If you’d like to go the natural route, sugar scrubs are perfect for removing dry skin off of your sensitive lips and honey is a great natural moisturizer.
3. Mani & Pedi
Don’t overlook the small details. Your finger and toe nails should be trimmed and neat. Any old nail polish should be taken off. We recommend a professional mani and pedi before your session to make sure your nails are looking their best!
Some of my favorite nail salons are MediSpa and Salon on Longmire and Sola Salon Studios on Rock Prairie.
4. Hair Cut & color
Having gorgeous hair is extremely important for your glamour photography session. We have a professional hair stylist that will style your hair but we’re unable to offer trimming and coloring services. Schedule a trim and a color touch-up if you needed to make sure you don’t have any roots showing or split ends. Again, we recommend using a professional salon.
5. Shave & Wax
Your eyes are the focus of your portraits. You don’t want stray eyebrow hairs showing in perfect focus. Schedule an eyebrow and lip wax if needed. Ensure that you have shaved your underarms, legs, and bikini, if you are doing boudoir portraits. We use a very high resolution camera and all those tiny hairs do show!
6. Go commando or wear loose fitting underwear the day of your session (For Boudoir)
If you are scheduled for a boudoir session, or will be wearing a strapless top, avoid wearing tight underwear or not wearing underwear at all. The imprints from underwear are unsightly in your images and we charge extra to remove them.
7. Careful on the tanning
If you are scheduling a tan or will be out in the sun before your session make sure to avoid getting tan lines. Tanning can also dry your skin out so make sure that you are using a good moisturizer after your tans. Tan lines are not something that we fix in post production and if the tan lines are bad, we will have to reschedule your glamour photography session.
8. Drink plenty of water
It’s no secret that drinking plenty of water does wonders for your body. It helps give your skin a clear and fresh glow. The whites of your eyes are brighter. Your hair and nails will look healthier.
9. Get enough beauty sleep
Another easy solution to making sure your portraits look fantastic is getting enough sleep. If you’re not getting enough sleep, you’ll get tired, dark eyes and won’t feel as refreshed for your session.
10. Come with clean skin and dry hair
Make sure that you have cleaned off all of the makeup on your face and your hair is clean and dry. The Hair and Makeup artist will be able to get started on your makeover right away. This will help with getting your glamour photography session off to a smooth start.
